Apex Legends Beginner's Guide — Getting Started in the Outlands

What is Apex Legends?

Apex Legends is a free-to-play battle royale FPS. 60 players drop into a map in squads of 3. Last squad alive wins. Each player chooses a "Legend" — a character with unique abilities.

Your First Drop

Choosing a Drop Location

• Hot zones: High loot, high risk (many squads drop here)
• Safe zones: Farther from ship path, few enemies, slower start
• Recommendation for beginners: Drop away from the ship path, loot safely

Drop Controls

• Hold jump to jump from the ship
• Aim at your destination and dive to increase speed
• Aim at buildings to deploy parachute and glide

Core Mechanics

Pinging

The ping system lets you communicate without voice:

• G to ping a location, item, or enemy
• Double-tap G to mark danger
• Ping loot to call it out to teammates

This is Apex's best feature — master it early.

Knockdown vs Death

• Knocking a player downs them (crawling state)
• They can be revived by teammates
• Kill them while downed for full elimination
• Knocked players can still shoot back with a pistol

Respawn System

• Collect a dead teammate's Banner within 90 seconds
• Bring it to a Respawn Beacon to revive them
• They drop back in with basic gear

Starting Legend Recommendations

Lifeline (Support)

• Revives teammates automatically
• Calls supply drops
• Easy to contribute as a beginner

Bloodhound (Recon)

• Scans for enemy footprints
• Visual on nearby enemies
• Good for learning enemy positions

Gibraltar (Tank)

• Huge shield bubble
• Dome protects teammates
• Hard to kill (but hard to miss too)

Basic Combat Tips

• Don't push alone — wait for teammates
• Use cover — peek corners, don't stand in the open
• Watch your ammo — reload during lulls, not mid-fight
• Armor matters — upgrade from white → blue → purple → gold when possible
• Heal timing — use shield cells and syringes behind cover, not during fights
