Controller Agents Guide
Controller Agents Guide
Controllers quietly shape the entire round because smokes decide which fights are visible, which paths are safe, and how long defenders or attackers can hold their ground. Playing controller well is about timing, map awareness, and patience more than raw fragging. A great controller makes difficult rounds feel orderly for everyone else.
Smoke For Purpose, Not Habit
Every smoke should solve a threat. Good smokes cut the sightline that most endangers your team’s plan, letting entries cross, defenders retake, or post-plant players survive longer without taking impossible aim duels. Tie smoke placement directly to the current round objective.
Ask which defender angle or attacker lane is most punishing right now, then smoke that first. Auto-smoking standard spots without considering the exact push can accidentally shelter the enemy or block your own team. Purposeful smokes create more favorable geometry for every fight.
- Place smokes where your team needs to cross safely, not where they simply look common.
- Refresh smokes around the spike timer when the next five seconds matter most.
- Tell teammates when a smoke is fading so they can reposition or swing together.
- Save one smoke if the round may shift into a retake or late lurk punish.
Control Tempo Across The Round
Controllers often decide when a round speeds up or slows down. Early smokes can suggest a hit, late smokes can enable a pivot, and layered post-plant smoke timing can turn a clean plant into an unwinnable retake for the enemy. Use your kit to bend the pace in your team’s favor.
Delay committing utility until it maximizes either your team’s move or the enemy’s discomfort. If you spend everything instantly, your team may win the entry and still lose the round structure. Tempo control raises your influence far beyond individual kills.
- Smoke late on defense when you need to burn attacker time, not only the moment noise appears.
- On attack, consider holding a smoke to support a mid-round pivot after a default.
- Use one-way or awkward-edge smokes only if your team knows how to play around them.
- Match your smoke timing to teammate utility so pressure arrives in a sequence.
Survive Long Enough To Matter
Controller utility often becomes more valuable as the round goes on. Because smokes, mollies, or zone control tools can decide post-plants and retakes, dying first without using the role properly usually costs more than a similar death on a self-sufficient agent. Take smart fights while protecting your late-round influence.
Position where you can support the plan without exposing yourself to the earliest high-risk duel unless your team has clearly chosen an aggressive setup. Greedy peeks and isolated lurks can remove the most important utility from the server. Living longer often means winning more rounds, even with fewer kills.
- On attack, let the entry pair make the first contact unless you have a clear trade angle.
- On defense, fall back after initial utility if staying exposes you to an easy overwhelm.
- Keep track of your cooldowns or remaining smoke count during chaotic mid-rounds.
- If you must lurk, do it from a position that still preserves your ability to support the team quickly.
Communicate Your Utility Like A Leader
Controllers often have the clearest view of the round’s structure. Because you decide where vision is denied, your teammates need to know when paths open, when they close again, and when a rotate or execute window is strongest. Turn your utility timing into shared team timing.
Make concise calls before smokes drop and before they fade so everyone can act on the same clock. Silent smokes can leave teammates entering too early, too late, or into the wrong lane. Clear controller comms make your whole team faster and calmer.
- Count down execute smokes when your team is grouped and ready.
- Tell flank players if a smoke covers their exit path or blocks their trade.
- Call when you are out of utility so the team knows the next fight must be cleaner.
- Use your broader perspective to suggest resets or pivots if the current hit stalls.
