Apex Legends Team Guide — Communication and Coordination
Why Teamwork Wins
Apex Legends is fundamentally a team game. Three coordinated players with average aim beat three skilled players with no coordination almost every time.
Communication Tools
Ping System (No Mic Required)
- G on anything: "Hey team, look at this"
- Double G: Danger ping ("enemy here")
- Ping on enemy: Calls them out to team
- Ping on loot: "I'm grabbing this" or "anyone need?"
- Ping on compass: "Going this direction"
Voice Communication
If using voice:
- Call enemies: direction + distance ("North, 200m")
- Call your HP: "I'm low, rotating"
- Call your action: "I'm pushing", "I'm healing"
Roles in a Fight
Initiator
First player to engage. Creates the opportunity.
- Pushes into cover
- Throws grenades/abilities to disrupt
- Knocks or trades first
Second (Follow-Up)
Pushes immediately after initiator draws attention.
- Focuses fire on the same target
- Picks up any knock initiated
Third (Support)
Maintains positioning, watches flanks, heals team.
- Calls out additional threats
- Heals initiator if they take damage
Fight Calling
Even without voice, designate a "leader" who pings first. Team follows the first ping.
Natural pings to follow:
- Someone pings an enemy → everyone focuses that direction
- Someone pings a destination → rotate there
- Someone pings danger → stop and reassess
Revive Protocol
When a teammate is down:
- Call out position and who's reviving
- One player revives, others cover
- After revive, redistribute healing items
- Don't revive in the open — move downed teammate behind cover if possible
Late Game (Top 3)
When three squads remain:
- Watch both enemies simultaneously
- Don't engage until forced or you have a decisive advantage
- If caught between two squads, fight the squad in worse position first
