Minecraft Animal Guide — Taming, Breeding, and Farming

Passive Animals

Cow

• Drops: Beef, leather
• Breed with: Wheat
• Tame: Not tameable; fence them in
• Farm tip: 2 cows in a pen + regular breeding = infinite beef and leather

Pig

• Drops: Porkchop
• Breed with: Carrot, potato, or beetroot
• Special: Can ride with a saddle + carrot on a stick

Chicken

• Drops: Raw chicken, feathers, eggs
• Breed with: Seeds (wheat, melon, pumpkin, beetroot)
• Auto-farm: Collect eggs + hatch = passive chicken farm

Sheep

• Drops: Wool, mutton
• Breed with: Wheat
• Tip: Shear instead of killing for renewable wool; sheep regrow wool by eating grass

Horse

• Tame: Right-click repeatedly until hearts appear (feed apples/sugar/carrots to speed up)
• Breed with: Golden Apples or Golden Carrots (both must be tamed)
• Equipment: Saddle required to control; horse armor for defense

Wolf (Dog)

• Tame with: Bones
• Breed with: Any raw meat after tamed
• Fights alongside you: Attacks mobs you hit
• Heal: Feed raw meat when HP is low

Cat

• Tame with: Raw cod or raw salmon (approach slowly)
• Bonus: Creepers and phantoms avoid cats
• Breed: Raw fish after tamed

Parrot

• Tame with: Seeds (any)
• Special: Mimics nearby mob sounds — alerts you to enemies
• Found: Jungle biome only

Bee

• Home: Bee Nests in flowers biomes/forests
• Breed with: Flowers
• Products: Honey bottles, honeycomb (wax copper blocks)
• Warning: Aggressive if nest is disturbed; use Silk Touch and campfire smoke to safely harvest

Llama

• Tame: Right-click until hearts appear
• Storage: Equip chest (27 slots when fully loaded)
• Follow: Leads llamas follow each other in caravans
