Minecraft Ocean Monument Guide — Treasure and Strategy

What is the Ocean Monument?

An Ocean Monument is a large underwater structure found in deep ocean biomes. Contains:

• 3 Elder Guardians (must kill for Mining Fatigue removal)
• 8 Gold Blocks (hidden in center)
• Sponges (unique material)
• Prismarine + Sea Lanterns (valuable decorative blocks)

Preparation

Required:

• Potion of Water Breathing (2–3 minutes each, bring 6+)
• Potion of Night Vision (extremely dark inside)
• Full diamond armor

Recommended:

• Conduit (craftable with Heart of the Sea + Nautilus Shells) for infinite water breathing
• Milk (removes Mining Fatigue)

Mining Fatigue

Elder Guardians inflict Mining Fatigue III on any player within 50 blocks. This makes:

• Mining take 10× longer
• Impossible to break blocks without milk

Counter: Carry milk buckets. Drink immediately after infliction (lasts 5 minutes normally).

Strategy: Draining the Monument

Most efficient long-term approach:

1. Build a sponge room — use first sponges collected to drain water
2. Surround monument with sand walls
3. Systematically pump out water with sponges
4. Fight in drained air pockets

This takes 1–2 hours but makes farming the monument easy afterward.

Fighting Elder Guardians

All three are in different rooms:

1. Two in the front "wings"
2. One in the top chamber (hardest to reach)

Attack pattern: They charge a laser beam. Hit them while they're targeting you.
