Survival Tips

1. Never sleep in an unsecured location. The bed sets your respawn point, but sleeping fast-forwards time — a dangerous trade early game.

2. Grab everything. Scrap metal, old cloth, plant fibers — they're all useful. Early game, hoarding beats selective looting.

3. Mark your base on the map immediately. It's easy to get lost. Press M, place a waypoint at home.

4. Break down everything with an axe. Chairs, tables, cars — all give scrap materials faster than mining raw resources.

5. First tool: stone axe. Before leaving Day 1 spawn, craft one. 1 rock + 2 plant fiber + 1 stick. Takes 30 seconds.

Combat Tips

1. Headshots double damage. Always aim for the head. Against ferals and radiated, headshots are the only practical kill method.

2. Don't fight at night. Unless your base is secure, don't engage zombies at night. They're faster, deal more damage. Wait for day.

3. Crouch to reduce noise. Crouching reduces aggro radius by ~50%. Sneak through dangerous POIs without waking everything.

4. Kite instead of tank. Run backward while shooting. Staying mobile makes you nearly immune to walkers.

5. Save shotgun ammo for hordes. Don't waste shells on single zombies. Melee for singles, shotgun for horde density.

Base Building Tips

1. Build on dirt, not grass. Dirt holds structural integrity better for digging moats and underground sections.

2. Upgrade BEFORE Day 7. One hour of upgrading on Day 6 beats frantic repair during a horde.

3. Iron bars on windows. Bars let you shoot out but prevent zombie access. Better than wood boards.

4. Multiple traps slow the funnel. 5 rows of spikes means zombies take 5× spike damage per approach. Stack traps deep.

5. Double doors. Have an inner and outer door. If outer breaks, you still have protection while repairing.

Resource Tips

1. Cars give scrap metal. Smash all cars with your axe. Each yields 10–40 scrap metal. Early game this is gold.

2. Gas cans are everywhere. Check cars, gas stations, and garages. Fuel for vehicles is rarely scarce if you loot them.

3. Books give recipes. Every skill magazine read advances your crafting. Read everything you find immediately.

4. Sell what you can't use. Vendor early, re-invest in trader stock. Coins buy things you'd take weeks to loot.

5. Build a forge ASAP. Once you have a forge, metal becomes unlimited (mine iron, smelt). Without it, you're always scrapping.
