7 Days to Die Blood Moon Guide — Surviving the Horde Night
What is Blood Moon?
Every 7 in-game days, the sky turns red at dusk and hordes of zombies spawn continuously, targeting every player on the map all night long. This ends at dawn.
Blood Moon zombies:
- Run (no walking)
- Have increased HP
- Appear in much larger numbers
- Include special "demo" zombies (explode on death) and feral variants
Preparation Checklist
24 Hours Before (Day 6)
- Repair all base walls and traps
- Craft/collect 500+ bullets (or equivalent)
- Stock 10+ food and 10+ water items
- Place all traps in funnel
- Check electric fence charge
- Build shooting position with cover
Day of Horde (Day 7)
- Close all doors before sunset
- Position on your shooting platform
- Have melee weapon as backup
- Eat before horde starts
Fighting Strategy
Basic Strategy: Funnel + Shoot
- Let zombies enter through your funnel approach
- Traps slow and damage them
- You shoot from elevated position
- Reload during brief lulls
Advanced: Elevated Shooting Platform
Build a 3×3 platform at height (10+ blocks). Zombies can't reach you. They'll break the pillars — use reinforced concrete or steel pillars.
Demo Zombie Warning
Demo zombies (in hazmat suits) explode when killed or on death. Don't kill them directly — use spike traps or let other zombies finish them, OR shoot them from maximum distance.
Wave Composition
As you progress through game days, hordes get harder:
| Day | Composition |
|---|---|
| Day 7 | Basic zombies, slow variants |
| Day 14 | More runners, first ferals |
| Day 21 | Demo zombies appear, much higher HP |
| Day 28 | Radiated zombies (multiple HP bars) |
| Day 35+ | Full feral + radiated + demo swarms |
Post-Horde
- Loot zombie corpses for valuable crafting materials
- Repair base damage immediately
- Radiated zombies drop high-quality loot bags
